Terrace Edge

Weston

Located in a semi-rural town west of Boston, new owners acquired a property on which they wished to design and build a new home and surrounding landscape on for their growing family. With streets on two sides and evergreen hedges that encircle the perimeter, the site has an inward-focused nature. The design of the new home and landscape capitalized on the site’s existing features, including the mature perimeter canopy, lot shape and orientation, and adjacent resource areas. A seamless connection to outdoor living, maximizing the physical and visual connections between the home and landscape, was critical to the design.

At the rear of the property, broad monolithic stone stairs interconnect and define a series of outdoor spaces, each gently stepping down the site. Flowing lawn treads and an infinity edge pool reinforce the seamless transition between the home and landscape. At the eastern edge of the property, a gridded hawthorn bosque, underplanted with dwarf fountain grasses, offers a maze-like transitional space that ties into the overlapping paths and oval shaped rear lawn.

Architectural and landscape elements become focal features, with playful patterns in the paving, fencing, and plantings creating visually striking and varied experiences throughout.
